I Can’t Help Myself! The Four Top and declassified harmonic tempo maps w Special White House Song

I’m known as “grandma.” That said, when the guitar, bass and vocals bring their guests and the call goes out, “Everyone ready, Chris you ready?..” INTERRUPTION BY CHRIS, “yeah, and don’t ask grandma, because grandma’s always ready. Heard him jam through Pearl Jam Ten after hearing the songs once. He’s always ready – don’t let the look fool you.”

The Four Tops was always one of my favorite bands.  When my garage band, The New Neumann Power Trio went to play Sugar Pie Honey Bunch, well, I was so old in comparison to my mates on vocal and guitar that I went online looking for a precise, accurate measurement of the tempo as a groove to see or hear what I could help them with.

I found some entries that thanks to the non-evil folks at Google I am putting at the bottom, but they didn’t help. We did the old “let’s play along to the record 2 or three times until “you guys can feel the timing” I said. I am such an old drummer that though I am male I’m known as “grandma.”  That said, when the guitar, bass and vocals bring their guests and the call goes out, “Everyone ready, Chris you ready?..” INTERRUPTION BY CHRIS, “yeah, and don’t ask grandma, because grandma’s always ready. above: such a great song that Nick Jonas rocks it out at Barack, Michelle & family’s house!

Four Tops
I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)

median expected tempo=471.2 msec

harmonic speed in base 60=127.3 beats per minute

By the way, the reason I’m always ready is because I know how to keep time, which, like riding a bicycle, speaking French or driving a stick, is second nature non-thinking if one can do it – and impossible to learn smoothly in one day if one has no experience. There are exceptions of course. Some just never get it, even after practicing on a metronome for years – some, one month with a metronome used for half a practice and their playing BURNS with new life. That does take effort and study, though, two things not promoted very well in my country.
